This Irish Blessing was sent to me by a needlework shop in Galena, IL several years ago. I loved the words and thought they would fit into a guest room or B&B room perfectly. Galena is a lovely town just off the Mississippi River and has several lovely Bed and Breakfast. I recommend visiting the area.
I received this comment form a customer "Your catalog describes the text as an Irish blessing. You may want to look up Ellen M. Huntington Gates, 1835-1920. Her poem, Sleep Sweet, was published in a 1936 compilation by Hazel Felleman, titled "The Best Loved Poems of the American People". I don't know when it was published prior to that compilation.
Though the words have been modified slightly, it appears to me to be the same work. My discovery doesn't take away from the fact you've designed a delightful sampler. Even though a poem written nearly a century ago may exist in the public domain today, in light of our shared keen interest in copyright & creative integrity, you may consider giving correct credit for the beautiful poem."
Thank you!
